The Colorado School of Mines Men’s Lacrosse team is pleased to announce their 2011 schedule and season preview. A four game road trip to Oregon highlights the schedule. The Oredigger’s 2010 season ended in a loss to National Champion runner-up Utah Valley in the first round of the RMLC play-offs. The team finished with an 8-4 record and expects to continue their success into the 2011 season.

The Oredigger’s lost several key players to graduation, including former All-American goaltender Mike Stone, starting attackmen Pete Stacey and Daniel Staton, former All-Conference LSM Steve Wheeler, and former All-Conference Defender and Defensive Captain Trent Noonan. However, several incoming players are expected to have an immediate impact, including: NCAA Division III transfer Ted Lee (Defense), freshman Zachary Towner (Attack – Aurora, Colorado), freshman Nick Shipman (Attack – Sugarland, Texas), Tamer Elsayed (Defense – Aurora, Colorado). In addition, several other new players will bolster the Oredigger’s roster, a historical problem at a small engineering school.

Returning players with All-Conference honors include midfielder Tim Janke, faceoff Specialist Ryan Marsters, LSM Ross Eldridge. In addition, key returners include Midfield Captain and Team President Dan Janke, midfielders Adam Botts, Levente Sipeki, and Taylor Embury, and attackmen Ryan Eustance and Matt Alfano. Goal-tending duties will be split between Matt Nobles (Senior), Ben Norwood (Sophomore), and Pat McPadden (Junior). Matt Nobles will look to solidify the starting goaltender spot after taking a year of absence.

Head Coach Ryan Wallace will return for his second year at the helm of the program. When asked about the upcoming year, Coach Wallace said “I’m excited. I can’t wait to get out there and show everybody how hard this team has worked. While we lost a lot of key players, we are still returning a good core of talent and our new guys showed a lot of promise in pre-season. I expect us to have a good year and return to the RMLC play-offs.”

The Orediggers will start the 2011 campaign on February 26th against the University of Wyoming and March 5th against CSU-Pueblo. On March 14th, the team will then begin a four game trip to Oregon, playing the University of Portland, Western Oregon, Williamette, and Southern Oregon. In a spirited rematch of last season’s thriller, the Orediggers will host Fort Lewis on March 26th. After a game against Western State, the team will begin Divisional play against Northern Colorado on April 2nd. Two Division I teams will be played next: new RMLC member New Mexico and LSA member Texas Tech. Regis on April 13th, Montana State on April 17th, and Metro State on Apil 30th at Invesco Field will conclude the Oredigger’s season schedule.
